4 Short & Sweet Tips for Perfect Etiquette on the Range:
We’re back with another round of golf wisdom. Today, we're diving into the unsung hero of golf mastery: the driving range. Oh yes, that strip of turf where dreams of perfect swings are born, and where a little etiquette goes a long way in keeping the harmony. Here are four tips to help you ace your driving range etiquette and ensure everyone leaves with their zen intact.
- Respect the Space
Just like you wouldn’t want someone’s yoga mat overlapping yours in a packed class, keep your golf balls, tees, and, most importantly, your swing to your designated area. Personal space is precious, especially when swinging metal clubs around as hard and fast as you can muster (…TBH it’s shocking driving ranges aren’t more of a liability). A good rule of thumb is 10 ft of space for a hitting area. You don’t want to get remotely near hitting anyone or getting hit yourself.
- Volume Control
You know how you’re not supposed to talk during someone’s backswing? Well… the driving range is one big symphony of backswings. It’s more casual, because it’s just practice, but still, it’s best to be respectful of those around you and keep it quiet. Sure if you go to the range with a buddy, you can chit chat, just keep it down. We’re sure none of you Bad Madres reading this article would do this, but don’t be that person who curses at the bad shots (no one likes that guy). If you’re going to make noise, make it the sound of positivity.
- Clean Up, Buttercup
Channel your inner Marie Kondo and leave the range better than you found it. Gather your empty ball buckets, tee remnants, and any other debris. *Empty buckets of balls don’t spark joy.* Think of it as your chance to contribute to the zen of the range – a cleaner space is a happier place for all. If you have some leftover balls that you don’t have it in you to finish, feel free to offer them to the person next to you! It’s not weird, we promise.
- Sharing is Caring
When it’s busy, be mindful of your time and share the space. Hogging a prime spot while others wait patiently isn’t the best look. Rotate with your fellow golfers, make new friends, and maybe even pick up a tip or two. Golf is a community sport, after all. Sharing the range with grace shows you’re as classy as your Sierra Madre outfit ;).
The Wrap-Up
Next time you head to the driving range, remember these tips and practice your etiquette as carefully as your swing. You’ll not only improve your game but also contribute to a positive and respectful golfing community. And who knows? Your perfect manners might just inspire others to follow suit. Until next time, keep swinging, keep smiling, and most importantly, keep slaying!
